DPD named title Sponsor for ETC 2022

The biggest squash tournament in Europe, the European Team Championships (ETC), is coming to the Netherlands in 2022. In the week from 27 April to 30 April, Europe’s best players will compete against each other in teams. The championships are being organised by the Dutch Squash Federation, Squash Time Eindhoven and DPD parcel delivery experts, which is the main sponsor of the sport in the Netherlands.

Europe’s crème de la crème

Squash fans have had to wait seven years for the European Team Championships to come to Netherlands, but finally that’s going to happen in 2022. In the last week of April, over 200 participants from 20 different countries will travel to Eindhoven. And both the men’s and the women’s teams will be playing for the European title in that week.

All of Europe’s very best teams –including France, England, Germany and Belgium – will be entering their strongest players in the tournament. Spectators will be able to see the sport being played at the top level within the first and second division. In the men’s category, Simon Rossner, Gregoire Marche and James Wilstrop will be represent their countries.

And in the women’s, Nele Gilis, Camille Serme and the Dutch top player Milou van der Heijden. The Dutch men’s team is hoping to be promoted to the top division during these European championships.

Unique location

Last time the ETC was held in Birmingham, the UK. For the 2022 tournament, the organisers have chosen an iconic location in Eindhoven: ‘Het Klokgebouw’. Thanks to the ASB glass court, which will be erected inside Het Klokgebouw especially for the championships, Europe’s crème de la crème will be playing in a unique setting. The stands around the glass squash court will accommodate hundreds of spectators, from where they can admire their favourite players. Het Klokgebouw, which is located on the dynamic and fascinating Strijp-S district, is easily accessible from anywhere in Europe.

An event for young and old

By bringing the European Team Championships to the Netherlands in 2022, we hope to interest even more people in the sport. Everyone is welcome: young, old, squash fans and those just interested in or curious about the sport. Bringing together Europe’s top players in teams creates a fantastic dynamic, as a result of which the energy, atmosphere and experience will be more spectacular than ever before. We’re therefore very happy that we can make this event happen with the help of our sponsor, DPD.

Tom Lucas, Director of the Dutch Squash Federation

As an avid squash fan, I’m very proud that we can bring another important squash event to the Netherlands and that DPD can contribute to the organisation of the ETC. The dynamic nature of squash fits well with DPD, as no two days are the same for us either. But through effective team work, we can deliver parcels quickly and successfully to recipients. Naturally, I’m hoping to see the same speed, team work and success during the matches, as well.
